When the difficulties arrive, the Samurai rejoices. Maybe it’s because he is stupid, Cate would say. No, Ferro would answer, that when the water rises, the boat does the same. And for Ferro and Cate, it will be the stormiest nine months of their lives, even though they cannot yet clearly understand the storm that is brewing: they will think of their little girl when she will be born. At any rate they have to prepare for the final exam and graduation from high school with Patema and all the other friends, plan their graduation trip to Spain and Morocco, wanting only to think of the longest summer of their life, the home where they will stay together and their eighteen-year-old dreams. Ferro and Cate are not the only ones to be completely unprepared to face the pregnancy but also their parents are reacting in strange ways those of Ferro, who help them at first but then go into a crisis that could end in their divorce; those of Cate, who are even more absent and in trouble of her. All of them trying, in spite of themselves, to deal with a grandson and an incoming responsibility fifteen years in advance. In short, you usually take thirty or forty years before you are ready to become parents but Ferro and Cate have only nine months and unfortunately a son does not wait for you, you can be ready or not but he will come anyway. But if you stay light as a feather and with the heart on the right side, then maybe you can do it. The arrival of this baby in the life of Ferro and Cate was also a metaphor of the responsibilities of a difficult and complex age that has come and we are not ready for. Maybe just as Ferro and Cate we can also save ourselves if against the card of rhetoric we will play the card of lightness and irony.
